The 106th Anniversary of Atatürk’s Arrival in Ankara
December 27, 1919 marks a turning point at which Ankara assumed a central role on the stage of history as the headquarters of the National Struggle and the place where the destiny of the nation began to be shaped with determination. Atatürk’s choice of Ankara was not merely a strategic decision; it was also the spatial and political embodiment of a new state order grounded in national sovereignty.
With this historical responsibility, Ankara became the capital where the War of Independence was directed, the foundations of the Republic were laid, and the institutional structure of modern Türkiye was built. Shaped by Atatürk’s foresight, this center emerged as a realm of will in which the ideals of independence and sovereignty were embodied.
On this meaningful anniversary, we commemorate with respect and gratitude Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all the heroes of the National Struggle.
“Ankara shall hold the most honorable place in the history of the War of Independence.”
— Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
