Happy Language Day

Language is the memory, the common consciousness, and the fundamental pillar of independence for a nation. With this awareness, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ensured the establishment of the Turkish Language Association in 1932, aiming for Turkish to develop through its own resources and to be strengthened as a language of science and culture. With his encouragement and participation, the First Turkish Language Congress convened on September 26, 1932, and its opening day was declared “Language Day.” We respectfully and gratefully commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all those who have contributed to our mother tongue, Turkish, and we celebrate Language Day.

“The bond between national sentiment and language is very strong. The richness of a language is a key factor in the development of national sentiment. The Turkish language is among the richest of languages; it only requires conscious cultivation. The Turkish nation, which knows how to defend its country and its supreme independence, must also free its language from the domination of foreign tongues.”
